Motorized Retractable Pergola | Moxy South Beach Hotel – Miami Beach, FL

Designed for one of Miami Beach’s most dynamic hospitality destinations, this rooftop project at Moxy South Beach Hotel presented a unique combination of architectural, structural, and environmental challenges.

Artepatio engineered and installed a large-scale motorized retractable pergola system atop the hotel’s rooftop, where strict oceanfront building requirements, high wind exposure, and limited structural access demanded an exceptionally precise approach. One of the primary challenges was achieving maximum structural integrity with minimal slab penetration, preserving the building envelope while meeting Florida’s stringent coastal load and wind-code regulations.

Working in close coordination with engineers and project stakeholders, the pergola was designed to distribute loads efficiently, withstand harsh marine conditions, and perform reliably at elevation—all without compromising the rooftop’s structural system. The motorized roof allows the space to transition seamlessly between open-air views and protected comfort, giving guests the flexibility to enjoy the rooftop in varying weather conditions.
