Motorized Retractable Pergola | Cap Calusa Hotel – Anguilla, British Caribbean

Set on the edge of the Caribbean Sea, this project at Cap Calusa Hotel in Anguilla required Artepatio to deliver a fully custom motorized retractable pergola under some of the most demanding logistical and environmental conditions.

One of the primary challenges was transporting the entire aluminum structure from the United States to the British Caribbean Islands, coordinating overseas shipping, customs, and precise delivery schedules. Once on site, installation had to be executed from the seaside of the restaurant, with limited land access and constant exposure to marine conditions.

Architecturally, the restaurant patio features a distinct curved geometry, requiring the pergola to follow the exact radius of the structure while still allowing the roof system to retract smoothly and evenly. Artepatio engineered a custom aluminum framework that preserves the curve, maintains structural integrity, and ensures flawless motorized operation.

The retractable roof system incorporates a double fabric layer, combining functional protection with refined aesthetics. The upper layer provides reliable defense against sun, rain, and coastal elements, while the interior fabric layer enhances ambiance, softens acoustics, and elevates the overall dining experience—day and night.

The result is a seamlessly integrated outdoor dining space that respects the restaurant’s architectural identity, withstands the Caribbean environment, and allows guests to enjoy uninterrupted ocean views in comfort.
